NEW YAM FESTIVAL

     TITLE: KAJOLA NEW YEAR FESTIVAL.
Among the most unique festival in kajola community is the new yam festival.In the ancient days,the new yam festival is the most recognized festival in the community just like a new year celebration, because it marks the beginning of another harvesting period,then both Christian and Muslim religion are not well embraced so everybody comes out to celebrate this festival in a new attires, including the community head( OBA EDEMORUN OF KAJOLA) his chief's and every other leaders in different aspect of ruling.
Still on this history we tell you 
How it is been celebrated.
Few weeks to the celebration, OBA EDEMORUN OF KAJOLA and the chiefs in conjunction with the iyaloja and babaloja will fix a date for the celebration,as it is celebrated on the last market in the month of June,after that a unique attire will b selected by the market women and all the people of the community will equally join them in that of course, everyone will all be eager to witness the days it is a day of celebration to the whole community.
 Moreover,a day to the celebration, all farmers in the town of kajola goes to there various farms to harvest some tubers of yam,and of course each one of th will like to come home with the biggest tubers of yam to show how fruitful their yearly farming was and how competent they are in farming,but nobody eat any of this yams until the kabiesi(EDEMORUN OF KAJOLA) declear the celebration opened on the joyful celebration day.
Nevertheless, in the late evening of the day, house wives will be busy preparing while young people also and music of different nature,life play by various individual department, artist also included do perform in the evening till late hours of the night and everybody goes back home to sleep and rest for the next day for the proper program.
On the celebration day, Early in the morning,the student Union of kajola do av a jungle (rally) all round the community to wish them a happy celebration and later to the king's palace to pay homage to the EDEMORUN on throne.And also a five-sided football competition is been hosted by the union during this period to grace and celebrate the occasion.
After the student Union homage,the community drummer will go to the palace to pay homage also to the king as different songs will be sang with there drums and instruments.
SUCH AS:
✓"Asese rinse to a ba we yi tan atun see misi,asese rinse".
Translation "we will witness more of this after this year own,we will witness another."
✓" Oba Adeleke omo Oyewole,no rinse na ni ko made,eni inu ba bit eni ko fori sogi"
Translation" Telling the EDEMORUN on the throne not to change his attitude and to continue his good works"
✓ "Olorun nbe leyin re Olorun nbè leyin re awon to nilé, won o ni da o da, Olorun nbè leyin re.
And other different songs just like that of ALAFIN OF OYO.After that the whole community will go to the market square to wait and welcome the Royal father (EDEMORUN OF KAJOLA) and his queen, the Royal Queens will be in a straight line as they carry the tubers of yam harvested by the Royal father to the market,this yams that belongs to the Royal father will be the one to open the market after that other will follow as it's is a custom. This set of yams that belongs to the Royal father will be sold out first,and the price that is given will be the actual price to pay by the buyers,no room for pricing/negotiation as a sign of respect and honour to the Royal father.
 The Kabiesi with his chief's and the iyaloja and babaloja will pray in the market square. They pray for peace, progress and stability in the community also for more beautiful harvest as our major occupation is farming, and prayer to witness more of it in sound health of mind and body. After that the invited artists will continue to display and the Royal father with his people will
dance this visitors from near and far
especially the Royal father and chief's from the neighboring community.At the market 
square,the artist will continue to display and people of different calibers, groups and society will
also dance one after the other.The drummers will display different dancing style in the market
square and later round the community.Also,hunters group of Nigeria, kajola branch will also
display and dance in their own dancing pattern, and the artist will continue to display, sing
different type of songs till the day closes.
After the Royal father had left the market square, the house wives having bought what they will
use for cooking will go back home and prepare delicious soup and pound yam for their
family. Everybody continues to eat and drink as it is part and parcel of the celebration.

Areyingbakumo, okunmodo odo, eleyinsu,
Inconclusion we implore both far and near to come  and witness this occasion as it
is one of the unique celebration in the community, and on this day, yam of different varieties will
be in the market for sales at cheaper price.

KAJOLA community is  located in southern part of Oke Ero local govt of kwara - state. Phase II Brief history of Kajola

   BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF KAJOLA A Yoruba proverb goes thus "bi omodo ko ba gbo itan a gbo aroba, aroba si ni baba itan". This can be translated as "if a child does not meet a circumstance, a tale should enlighten him".        According to the tradition we heard orally, it was revealed to us that several centuries ago, Kajola migrated from Ile-Ife and settled on their present virgin lands unoccupied by anyone and free of any rival. The first monarch of the community was Oba Edemarun Te-bi-osule accompanied by marvellous royal properties with crown which had no equal in our local environment. These are still readily available at Oba Edemarun's Palace till the present time.         Kajola is an autonomous community in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State.
